![]() No malice towards you, and not everyone works in a squadron like mine where they experience something similar to this everyday. Losing pay sucks, even if it's technically extra pay, and it seemed like it would have affected your decision. I don't know what can be done for you now, but maybe this will have future IST candidates be better informed. Maybe try to get his attention, because it seems like you are not the only person that this has/will happen to. The CMSSF was a linguist, and I know he has been active on this thread. Or perhaps you should qualify for the pay and this just hasn't been brought to the attention of the higher ups. You were misinformed about something you specifically asked and that shouldn't be on you. I agree 100% ideally in your case when you asked the question it should have been answered accurately. Sorry about the soap box haha thanks for giving me that resource! Some of us are looking at losing anywhere between $200 to $500 a month with the transfer and the decision could have shifted with the knowledge that we'd be taking a pay cut. My biggest issue with this is that we were told that we would maintain our pay and now that may not be honored. The regulations can be read in a way that all of the transferred linguists should get paid, but they can also be read the other way. I'm also looking at DoDI 1340.27 which seems a little more promising.Įnclosure 4 has eligibility requirements and I meet both of them to receive pay as I have been certified as proficient in my language and I am technically qualified in a military career specialty requiring the proficiency-I also fall under the caveat that I've received years of training on the DoD dime for my language proficiency. Yeah, once I got the call that I probably wouldn't be getting it I started combing through the AFI. If anyone can explain this particular disconnect between the GOC and the education centers I would appreciate it. I guess I'm just mildly frustrated because I'm now out $400 a month that I really wasn't prepared to lose. While this logic does make sense, it is not what I was told while I was gearing up for transfer. I transferred a couple of weeks ago and now I'm being told that I am no longer entitled to it because I'm no longer a linguist and I'm not in a language enabled billet. When I attended the GOC we were told that FLPB would be honored upon transfer to the USSF as long as we submitted our DA 330 (Army form for DLPT scores) to our education center upon transfer. Just wanted to give a heads up to those this would affect. As of now, there is no policy in place for FLPB continuance for those who languages don't make these lists (maybe there will be in the future, I'm sure we'll be waiting on an update on this for a while?). If your language is on the sustainment list you will have a positional requirement to get FLPB, if it is on the Immediate and Emerging language list your pay will continue regardless of position. SOME linguists will be able to keep their FLPB upon transfer, but it is completely dependent on the language. ![]() Update: So as it stands now, the GOC wasn't completely wrong.
